About The Contest
Canada is a country that is full of rich history, diverse cultures and stunning landscapes that all merit conserving for the generations to come. For this year’s contest, participating classes must participate in a stewardship activity that contributes to the protection of the local environment or presentation of local history or culture.
Register online, then participate in a stewardship activity that connects to Parks Canada.
Create a five-picture photo essay and submit it.
Encourage your friends, family and community through local media or social media to vote for your photo essay!
Your class might be the lucky winner of Canada’s Coolest School Trip or one of the other great prizes!
It's just that simple!
To be eligible to win any prizes, all the students in your class must participate in a stewardship activity for a minimum of 4 hours. This activity must contribute to the protection of the local environment or presentation of local history or culture. Together, the class must create a photo essay about their experience. The photo essay must include five (5) photos with a maximum of 150 characters per photo.
- Photo 1 must represent the preparation or planning for the activity
- Photos 2, 3 and 4 must represent the activity itself
- Photo 5 must show how the activity connects to a particular Parks Canada place or Parks Canada's mandate.
You must submit your photo essay through your online account. Each grade 7,8 and 9 / secondary 1, 2 and 3 class may submit only one photo essay. It must be no longer than five pictures with 150 characters – anything longer than that will not be judged. A class can win only one prize.
Grand prize and runner-up prizes
Judging for the grand prize and runner-up prizes will take place in two stages. First, the top ten photo essays will be selected through public online voting. Then, a panel of judges will review the the top ten along with five staff picks in order to select the grand prize winning photo essay and the runner-up photo essays. Remember that in order to get as many public votes as possible your photo essay should be creative and catch the attention of voters!
Honourable mention prizes
Six honourable mentions will be awarded a prize. Winners will be selected by region. If a region is not represented within the short-listed fifteen (15) photo essays, winners will be selected at the discretion of the judges and may be chosen from all entries received or from any region.
