2020 Winners

Grade 6, 7, 8 and 9 and Secondary 1, 2 and 3 classes were asked to make a video focusing on the conservation effort made by the class to contribute to the protection of the local environment and/or conservation of local history or culture.

Recycle and compost! Butler Elem. Qc

Ms. Blinn’s and Mr. Viens’ Secondary 1 (Grade 7) class from Butler Elementary School in Bedford, Quebec, created an extremely eye-catching and moving story about how they came up with an idea that sparked a movement related to waste management in their school and community. Their efforts revitalized the school’s approach to recycling and composting and even made the front page of their local newspaper! Their project was inspiring and effectively documented in their video through the use of visual prompts, voiceovers and music! Congratulations to the winners!

This clever video, made by students from Cité des Jeunes A.-M.-Sormany in Edmundston. highlighted their work to revitalize and protect the language spoken by the francophone people inhabiting the area in and around Edmundston, New Brunswick.

Learning and Sharing our Stories -Michikan Lake School, Bearskin Lake, Ontario

These students shared a moving account of how they learned about the history of their community from their elders and decided to share stories about their home using words from the Oji-Cree language with their peers.

Eliminating Plastic Bags in Golden, B.C. - Lady Grey Elementary, Golden Lake, British Columbia

This beautiful video told the story of how students from Lady Grey Elementary School in Golden Lake, British Columbia, raised awareness about the plastics crisis affecting local natural habitats and made a difference in their community’s commitment to stopping the use of plastic bags.
